Units of measure and decimal quantities

Set up the units you buy and sell in, and whether quantities can include decimals.

Add a unit of measure

  1. Go to Settings → Products → Units of Measure.
  2. Click Add Unit.
  3. Enter a name (such as Kilogram) and abbreviation (such as kg).

Buy and sell in different units

On each product, choose a Buy UOM and Sell UOM, and how many units are in each. For example, you buy by the Carton with 24 in a carton, and sell by the Each. Stock is always counted in single units.

Allow decimal quantities

Go to Settings → Products → Quantity Settings:

  • Allow Decimal Quantities — turn on if you sell part-units, such as 2.5 kg. Every quantity then shows with decimals, such as 1.00. When it's off, quantities are whole numbers.
  • Decimal Places — how many decimal places quantity and price fields show.

The setting applies everywhere: orders, picking, receiving, stocktakes, reports and printed documents. Refresh the page after you change it.

Good to know: serial-tracked products are always whole numbers. You can't turn decimals off while any stock is held in part-units, such as 1.5. Adjust it to whole numbers first.
