Import kits from a CSV file
Set up the items for many kits at once from a spreadsheet.
Before you start
- You need the Manage company settings permission.
- Each kit must already exist as an active Non Stock product with no stock on hand. The import turns on its kit setting.
- Every item in the file must already exist as a product.
Go to Settings → Kits & Bundles → Import kits and click Download template.
Add one row for each item in a kit:
Column What to enter Kit SKU The kit's Product #. Component SKU The item's Product #. Quantity How many of the item go in one kit. Unit Optional. If you fill it in, it must match the item's unit. A kit with three items has three rows. Save the file as CSV.
Good to know: importing a kit replaces its whole list of items with the rows in your file.
Click Choose CSV file and select your file. InventaHQ checks it and shows a result for every row: OK, Skipped or Problem, with the reason.
Click Import (it shows how many kits are ready). You'll see Import finished with the number of kits imported.
If a kit has a problem on any row, that whole kit is skipped, so no kit is left half built. Fix the file and import it again.
Common problems
| Message | How to fix it |
|---|---|
| No product with the SKU … was found | Check the SKU, or add the product first. |
| … isn't a Non Stock item | Change the kit's product type to Non Stock. |
| … has stock on hand | Adjust the kit's stock to zero first. |
| … is a kit, and kits can't contain other kits | Remove that row. |
| … is listed twice for this kit | Combine the quantities into one row. |
| Unit … doesn't match | Use the item's unit, or leave Unit blank. |
You can import up to 5,000 rows at a time, and a kit can have up to 200 items.
