Add a kit to a sales order, purchase order or transfer
Learn what happens when you add a kit to an order, and how to change the items for one order.
On a sales order, purchase order or transfer, search for the kit under Line Items and select it. It shows with a purple Kit label.
Enter the quantity of kits. The items inside it are added below the kit, marked with ↳. Their quantities are the quantity per kit × the number of kits.
If you change the number of kits, the item quantities update for you.
You can change an item's quantity on this order only. For example, the customer wants 3 chocolates in this gift box instead of 2. The kit itself doesn't change.
Save as usual. To remove a kit, remove the kit line. Its items are removed with it.
How each order type treats a kit
| Order | Price | Stock |
|---|---|---|
| Sales order | The kit line has the price. Items show included in the kit price. | You pick and ship the items. They leave your stock. |
| Purchase order | The kit line is a heading, priced by the items below. Each item uses its own cost. | You receive the items into stock. |
| Transfer | No prices. | You pick and transfer the items. |
Good to know: if your settings hide a kit's items on an order type, you only see the kit line. The items are still saved, and stock still moves for them. See Kits & Bundles settings.
Kits in reports and Xero
- Sales profit uses the kit's cost at the time it was sold, so your margin stays right even if costs change later.
- On invoices sent to Xero, the kit goes across at its price. If Xero tracks your inventory, the tracked items inside it go at $0 so Xero reduces its stock.
